Dandyism dates back to the early 1800s in Britain, around the reign of George IV. Dandies were men who lived a life of extravagance. They were often characterized by their appearance, which usually consisted of high busts, pinched waists, close fitting pants, shoulder pads, and horse collars. Preening was a regular part of a dandy's routine, so they were also clean-cut. It is speculated that these men were precursors to the "Peacocks" of the 1960s, as they bore many similarities. Dandies are often used as a popular subject for satire, as depicted in the image on your right >>>
